Let's start off by addressing the elephant in the room.
Yes, the late 90′s early 00′s semi-hardcore experimental band turned commercial pop act Incubus is not necessarily in the "wheelhouse" of KCRW DJs or listeners.
Except for a few occasions they may not have ever been.
But, as we discussed here in the Music bungalow sky-loft, Incubus is closer to what we would consider "alternative" or "Indie" then you would think at first glance.
I like my analogy (of course I do) that if you grew up in a household with a strict diet of top-40 playlists, only to create your own path of musical discovery as you aged, you probably passed by Incubus along the way to say, My Morning Jacket.
Now, that being said, let's not let this distract us from the element at hand which is Yuna's feathery voice perched just above her acoustic guitar on this cover of the 1999 album, "Make Yourself". (This record, in my opinion was the last bastion of alternative hope for the band before their record "Morning View", but I digress)
On a visit to Morning Becomes Eclectic, the Malaysian songwriter played a handful of songs from her latest release but surprisingly dropped this song, seemingly out of nowhere. Affirming my belief that the element of surprise usually makes the best covers.
Editor's Note: Yuna's new album "Nocturnal", recorded in Los Angeles, is out October 29.
