voter2Mr Paul Kingsley Aweh Averu, nominated by the President as District Chief Executive (DCE) for Asante-Akim North, has for the second time in 10 days failed to get the approval of the Assembly.

He polled 20 votes, a single vote short of the mandatory two-thirds majority threshold of 21 he needed to seal his confirmation at a special meeting held at Agogo on Tuesday.

Mr Averu had polled the same number of votes in the previous election and the expectation was that intensive consultations afterwards would change things for him.

Mr Kofi Dwomoh Asubonteng, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director, before the vote, had pleaded with them to give the nominee the nod in the interest of the development of the district.

The members would, however, not shift from their entrenched positions, leaving the door open for either his re-nomination or withdrawal.

A fairly large crowd of people thronged the place to witness the election, supervised by the Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), Mr Samuel Tettey.

The district, which was carved out of the Asante-Akim Central, has been without a DCE, since its inauguration, last year.
