Ning Baizura showed yet another side of her at a recent charity concert, writes Zaharah Othman.

AMID the glitter of a thousand stars, our very own Ning Baizura shone when she opened (and later closed) the 21st anniversary of the charity concert When You Wish Upon A Star.

There was none of the backstage nerves — she was worried about co-hosting with a more experienced presenter, Zoe Tyler, and presenting in English before an audience she was not familiar with.

The Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham witnessed Ning's debut as a presenter at an event by a much cherished charity which has granted over 14,500 wishes of children suffering from life-threatening illnesses.

From meeting Father Christmas in Lapland and football idols to visiting Disneyworld, many children have had their wishes come true. Ning has had a hand in it by creating awareness and raising funds for the charity.

"It was such an honour, something that I had been looking forward to for almost a year since receiving an invitation," she said after the concert.

It all began last year when her sister-in-law Nicky Agnew, who is involved with the charity and the production, suggested that Ning take part. Earlier this year, Ning and husband Omar Shariff (also known as Chris Dalton), who comes from Nottingham, came over to rehearse with the choir groups, dance teams, acrobats and other performers, young and old.

"The performances, from the youngest to one aged 70, were all from the heart. All the talents had one thing in common —a love so big and incomparable to none other, a dedication to this charity," said Ning.

The audience in the Royal Concert Hall clapped to the rhythm of the dance teams and laughed at the comedy served up that evening. They were attentive when clips of interviews with children who had since lost their battle to illnesses, were played.

Ning said: "I cried watching the clips of parents who had lost their children and realised how dedicated they were to this charity.

"I learnt so much, not only from Zoe Tyler but also from those in the production who had worked so hard without expecting payment in return. It had been a wonderful journey. Simply inspiring."

Ning opened the show in a glittering black kebaya and led a cast of more than 30 people to sing the theme song When You Wish Upon A Star.

"I was proud to wear the kebaya. It was the Malaysian element in a concert that was full of variety," said Ning, who later had the audience on their feet with a Bollywood routine.

Ning's sentiment was echoed by Nicky: "The event is not only focused in the United Kingdom, but also in other regions such as Lapland (Finland, Sweden, Norway and some parts of Russia) and the United States. So it's nice to add an international feel to the event, which I think Ning did."

Omar, who single-handedly attended to Ning from make-up and wardrobe to capturing more than 900 shots of her onstage, agreed: "She did a great job!"
It was certainly a great evening for all. Ning, for one, discovered another dimension to her skills onstage. And the UK audience certainly hasn't seen the last of Ning.

Bagi mencapai matlamat untuk mengukuhkan lagi kedudukan sebagai peneraju utama kandungan dalam dunia penyiaran, Astro dengan berbesar hati membawakan sebuah lagi projek hebat berjudul Mania yang bakal menggegarkan industri muzik tanah air. Program yang akan menyaksikan pertembungan sengit penyanyi-penyanyi hebat berbakat besar yang akan bekerjasama dengan penerbit muzik tersohor di rantau ini bakal bersiaran secara langsung menerusi Astro Ria pada setiap hari Sabtu jam 9.00 malam bermula 17 Mac 2012 secara eksklusif di saluran 104.
Berkonsepkan pertandingan nyanyian, program Mania ini akan dikemudikan oleh Aznil Haji Nawawi yang telah diberi kepercayaan untuk menggalas tanggungjawab sebagai pengacara selama 10 minggu bersiaran.

Program Mania bakal menyaksikan dua belas (12) penyanyi terkenal iaitu Stacy AF6, Jaclyn Victor, Hafiz AF7, Shila Amzah, Hazama AF9, Atilia, Akim AF7, Alyah, Kumpulan Estranged, Adira AF8, Kumpulan Kristal dan Awi Rafael yang akan berentap untuk membuktikan bakat dan kebolehan menyanyi masing-masing sekaligus dinobatkan sebagai juara di kalangan yang terbaik.
Tiga (3) orang ikon muzik tersohor telah diberi amanah untuk memikul tanggungjawab sebagai penerbit muzik untuk program Mania yang mana empat (4) orang penyanyi akan diletakkan di bawah bimbingan dan pemerhatian mereka. Mereka juga diberi kuasa untuk memilih sendiri penyanyi-penyanyi yang akan dibimbing kelak. Ikon-ikon tersebut adalah Dato' M Nasir, Ahmad Dhani dan Aubrey Suwito.

Uniknya program ini, sebanyak tiga (3) orang penyanyi lagi akan diserap masuk menyertai pertandingan ini yang akan dipilih menerusi undian Hot Seat secara online, menjadikan jumlah keseluruhan peserta adalah seramai 15 orang. Penyanyi-penyanyi yang terpilih ini juga akan diletakkan di bawah bimbingan penerbit muzik terlibat yang akan ditetapkan sendiri oleh pihak Astro.

Tempoh talian undian Hot Seat secara online akan dibuka bermula pada 20 Februari 2012 sehingga 16 Mac 2012, jam 12.00 tengah hari. Untuk mengundi, orang ramai hanya perlu melayari laman sesawang rasmi program Mania di www.mania.com.my. Para peminat kini boleh menilai dan mengundi calon-calon peserta yang digemari untuk diserap masuk ke program Mania.
20 orang penyanyi yang akan dipilih menerusi undian secara online adalah Idayu (AF2), Akma (AF3), Noni, Ebi, Shawal (AF5), Riz, Toi, Nadia (AF6), Aishah, Aril (AF7), Daus, Maulana (AF8), Azri, Kay, Lena, Erul, Fina (AF9), Chaq, Fiq dan Mohd (Mentor).

Program Mania akan menggunakan format pemarkahan 100% undian penonton melalui sistem pesanan ringkas (SMS) yang mana peserta dengan undian terendah setelah talian ditutup di akhir konsert mingguan pada setiap minggu akan tersingkir. Cara-cara untuk mengundi akan diumumkan dari semasa ke semasa di saluran Astro Ria.
Juara Mania bakal membawa pulang hadiah lumayan iaitu wang tunai berjumlah RM500,000. Manakala naib juara dan tempat ketiga pula masing-masing akan memenangi RM200,000 dan RM100,000. Bukan itu sahaja, penerbit muzik yang berjaya membimbing mana-mana penyanyi di bawah pengawasannya sehingga dinobatkan sebagai juara juga akan membawa pulang wang tunai sebanyak RM300, 000.

Ulasan Konsert Mania Minggu Pertama | Sensasi Selebriti

Pada malam Sabtu lalu, telah berlangsung, siaran live minggu pertama program realiti hiburan Mania di Studio 1, Pusat Penyiaran Asia Astro, Bukit Jalil. Evolusi 'Superstar' kini bermula. Konsert pemilihan minggu pertama Mania Sabtu lalu menyaksikan persembahan oleh empat artis terkenal iaitu Stacy, Kumpulan Estranged, Atilia dan Akim.

Penerbit Muzik Dato' M. Nasir telah membuat pilihan yang agak menarik apabila memilih Stacy yang terkenal dengan lagu-lagu berentak pantas. Penerbit Muzik dari Indonesia pula iaitu Ahmad Dhani telah memilih Atilia, Kumpulan Estranged dan Akim sebagai ahli kumpulan HIJAU. Manakala Penerbit Muzik Aubrey Suwito masih belum memilih bintang yang akan dibimbing.

Ebi ialah salah seorang peserta yang telah terpilih untuk menyertai Mania menerusi undian 'Hot Seats' telah membuat persembahan di hadapan kesemua Penerbit Muzik Mania. Ebi akan berada di bawah bimbingan Dato' M Nasir untuk digilap menjadi 'Superstar'.

Bintang manakah pula yang akan membuat persembahan untuk menambat hati Dato' M Nasir, Ahmad Dhani dan Aubrey Suwito pada minggu ini? Bintang manakah pula yang terpilih untuk menyertai Mania menerusi 'Hot Seats'? Sama-sama kita saksikan.

Menurut komposer M. Nasir, Stacy menjadi pilihan kerana dia yakin bakat dan potensi juara Akademi Fantasia musim keenam itu boleh diperhebatkan.

"Saya tertarik dengan kegigihan, disiplin dan komitmennya ketika mengadakan sesebuah persembahan. Kemahiran dan kesungguhannya boleh diperhebatkan lagi. Stacy takkan selama-lamanya membawakan genre 'pop dance', dia perlu diberikan lagu-lagu lain yang bersesuaian dengan kemampuan vokalnya,"

Diminta mengulas mengenai reaksi terkejutnya apabila ditetapkan oleh program itu untuk menerima Ebi, komposer lagu Awan Nano itu berkata ia adalah satu cabaran yang perlu dilaksanakan.

"Ini adalah format yang telah ditetapkan program ini. Pada aspek rakaman, vokalnya (Ebi) mungkin boleh diperbaiki. Tetapi aspek persembahan dan karakter di pentas itu memerlukan pengubahsuaian yang banyak. Susah juga hendak cakap kerana masih terlalu awal," katanya yang masih berbaki tiga kekosongan lagi.

Minggu pertama program itu menyaksikan persembahan empat penyanyi iaitu Stacy dengan lagu The Edge of Glory nyanyian asal Lady Gaga, Atilia menerusi Gelombang (Salamiah Hassan), Estranged menampilkan Rozana (Search) dan Akim dengan Demi Cinta (Kerispatih), selain Ebi dengan lagu We Will Rock You (Queen).

Dalam pada itu, komposer terkenal Indonesia, Ahmad Dhani mendahului senarai penyanyi pilihannya apabila memilih kumpulan Estranged, Atilia dan Akim. Bekas anggota kumpulan Dewa 19 itu berkata, tiga calon tersebut menjadi pilihan kerana kepelbagaian yang ditawarkan mereka.

"Saya mencari elemen variasi pada penyanyi-penyanyi di bawah empayar saya. Mereka menjadi pilihan kerana saya mencari penyanyi solo lelaki, solo perempuan dan kumpulan. Saya pilih Atilia kerana sudah lama tidak terlibat dalam pembikinan muzik jazz dan r&b sejak kali terakhir saya terbitkan album penyanyi Reza pada 1997. Saya ada banyak stok lagu genre itu," katanya yang berbaki dua tempat di bawahnya lagi.

Berbeza dengan M. Nasir dan Ahmad Dhani, seorang lagi komposer Aubrey Suwito masih tidak membuat sebarang pilihan pada persembahan minggu pembukaan itu.

"Mereka (M. Nasir dan Ahmad Dhani) terlalu membuat pilihan, saya tidak sempat untuk memilih mana-mana penyanyi daripada senarai minggu ini," katanya secara berseloroh.

Mania membariskan 12 penyanyi iaitu Adira, Akim, Atilia, Awi Rafael, Alyah, Hafiz Suip, Hazama, Jaclyn Victor, Shila Amzah, Stacy, kumpulan Estranged dan Kristal, selain tiga peserta yang dipilih menerusi undian tertinggi Hot Seat.

Setiap komposer akan membimbing lima penyanyi dalam persaingan untuk merebut hadiah utama bernilai RM500,000 untuk juara, RM300,000 (naib juara) dan RM100,000 (tempat ketiga).

Penerbit muzik yang berjaya membimbing penyanyi sehingga menjadi juara juga akan membawa pulang RM300,000.

Program yang menggunakan format pemarkahan 100 peratus undian khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) penonton ini disiarkan secara serentak pada setiap Sabtu pukul 9 malam di Astro Ria (saluran 104), Astro Prima (saluran 105) dan live streaming di laman web www.mania.com.my. – via Mstar

Mania Konsert Pertama Producer Pilih Artis ~ Life in The Fab Lame!

Kumpulan Bunkface Artis Jemputan untuk Konsert Pengenalan Mania

Stacy Penyanyi Mania pertama yang membuat persembahan (GREAT!!!)

Pada malam Konsert Pengenalan Mania sabtu lalu penonton di rumah telah disajikan dengan persembahan 3 penyanyi asal yang dipilih untuk mania, rina kelaskan sebagai okay, one Great!!! and the hot seat ticket singer was totally O-U-T and totally H-O-R-R-I-B-L-E!!
However Stacy performance was tottaly Great! sebagai penyanyi mania yang pertama membuat persembahan Stacy memang tak menghampakan penonton dan peminatnya, Stacy menyanyi lagu Edge Of Glory by Lady Gaga "for me" Stacy was FLAWLESS! suara stacy memang mantap dan bertenaga dari mula menyanyi hingga akhir dengan melakukan tarian (bukan tarian yang ala kadar pulak tu) dan daripada reaksi ketiga-tiga producer semuanya memang nakkan Stacy tapi akhirnya Datuk M.Nasir yang dapat (pastinya gembira)
Kemudian Atilia dengan lagu yang pernah dinyanyikan ibunya sendiri Salmiah Hassan, lagu Gelombang, Atilia nyanyi lagu tersebut dengan cara jazz, mula nyanyi tu agak slow dan actually i was bored to d-e-a-t-h lol and then agak almost halfway ada rancak sikit so okaylah taklah bored sangat :) Atilia kemudiannya dipilih untuk bernaung di bawah empayar Ahmad Dhani.
Kumpulan Estranged pula membuat persembahan yang ketiga, nanyi lagu Rozana...errmmm.. sama jugak macam Atilia mula so slow... and then guitaris naik stage baru tempo lagu semakin rancak "i like" but i still think its just okay, dan kemudian Estranged dipilih bernaung di bawah empayar Ahmad Dhani .
Persembahan yang keempat pula ialah Akim (memang tunggu-tunggu performance Akim) nyanyi lagu Demi Cinta walaupun rina peminat Akim tetapi agak dissapointed sikit too slow and draging too long that song ohh..my. mungkin lagu yang dipilih Akim tu yang tak sedap :( walau apapun tahniah sebab Akim telah dipilih untuk bernaung di bawah empayar Ahmad Dhani (Rina harapkan Akim di bawah M. Nasir)
Kemudian Persembahan kelima dan terakhir pada konsert pertama mania sabtu lalu, Pengacara Pak Nil mengumumkan peserta tiket Hot seat yang pertama.. Ebi kornelis.. lerr menyanyi lagu We Will Rock You by kumpulan Queen nak kata semangat nyanyi tersebut taklah... gedik adelah, dahlah nyanyian banyak sumbang, so horrible!! kemudian performance yang so mengada-ngada!! seriously!! so mengada-ngada verry OVER!!! Kalau nyanyi sedap persembahan over tu mungkin rina masih boleh pejam setengah mata tapi ni tak... macam syok sendiri ler pulak persembahan si Ebi ni..sumbang,huru-hura and TAK ADA QUALITY LANGSUNG!, tapi yang menambah lagi cuka di luka setelah si Ebi ni habis buat persembahan, bagi peserta Hot seat produser tak boleh pilih, Astro yang pilih produser untuk peserta hot seat, so the lucky producer (LOL) untuk Ebi Kornelis ialah Datuk M. Nasir... so then si Ebi bersujud! OMG so Overacting! like it look so pathetic!! mungkin cara rina deskripsi pasal Ebi Kornelis ni uols tak faham jika tak lihat performance dan apa yang dilakukan oleh Ebi masa konsert ni... but long story short Apsal ler Ebi dipilih masuk Hot Seat? cakap nak cari Superstar Malaysia tapi pilih yang begini?? tak masuk akal...

The final version of a mandala created in colaboration with elaria, a ballet dancer with a pure, white light.

I've struggled mightily with piece over weeks since it's inception, having moments of insight and fits of frustration, battling the color scheme and working in harmony with the roses I found in the torso cavities. It's been a long creation process and I'm finally satisfied with the work ready to call it finished.
