West- <b>Akim</b> Assembly Elects Presiding Member | Ghanaian Chronicle Posted: 20 Jun 2013 07:20 AM PDT Stories from Isaac Akwetey-Okunor Members of the West Akim Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region have re-elected Moses Ofori Timpo as the Presiding Member (PM), after he bagged in 36 votes out of 46 of the total votes cast. Article 17(4) and (6) of the Local Government Act, 1993 ACT 462 states that the Presiding Member shall hold office for a term of two years, and shall be eligible for re-election. Moses Timpo was taken through the oath of secrecy, office and allegiance by Mr. Ansah Awuah, an Asamankese Magistrate Court Judge, after the smooth and peaceful election. The re-elected West Akim Municipal PM thanked the members of the house for the confidence reposed in him, and gave the assurance of working closely with them to ensure that the municipality becomes one of the best, if not the best. On his part, the Municipal Chief Executive, George Mensah Akpalu, expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the delegates for their co-operation and understanding, which led to a successful election. The Municipal Chief Executive said: "The election of a Presiding Member, if you have been reading newspapers of late, has, in some District Assemblies, become a bone of serious contention, to the extent that it is held for a number of times without anybody emerging victorious." George Akpalu, before addressing the house, humbly asked members of the committee to observe a minute silent for the Assembly Member of the Nyamkomase/Otwenkwanta Electoral Area, John K.
