KUALA LUMPUR – A day after being discharged from hospital due to a fever, Malaysian movie producer and actor, Hans Isaac hit a six-under-65 to win the sixth qualifying round of the 2014 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup at the East Course of the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) in Bukit Kiara here today.

The first qualifier was held in India last March.

According to Hans, who is a 11 handicapper, he had to undergo intensive training five times a week for three months just to play in this tournament and was glad to score 42 points in the stableford system of the one-day tournament.

"Of course I feel very happy to win this tournament. It is actually my third win after winning two minor tournaments earlier this year but winning this tournament is definitely the most interesting," he said.

He added that KLGCC was the hardest course he had ever played in Malaysia and by winning the tournament, he is hoping for a better chance to qualify for the Malaysian Open as an amateur next year.

Meanwhile, an executive in a travel agency, Ellyza Lee, a handicap 22 golfer, claimed the category B (handicap 16-30) title after scoring a five-under-66 for 41 points.

"The game is fantastic and really nice, I think the course is suitable for lady golfers because it is a short course," she said.

Both winners of this qualifying round earned a chance to play in the Grand Final Tournament which will be held from Nov 9-16 in Antalya, Turkey and the grand final winner will have the privilege to play in the 2014 Turkish Airlines Open pro-am.

Meanwhile, Turkish Airlines Malaysia's General Manager, Firat Yildirim when met by reporters today, congratulated the participants in this tournament and looked forward to see both winners in Antalya this November.

"The main idea of organising this tournament is to increase the number of our passengers around the world when they travel across the continent to take part in this tournament," he said.

He said, since last year Turkish Airlines offered flights three times a week from Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul but since last week was offering daily flights on the same route. – BERNAMA
