The Kitchen Musical Nabs Gold at the New York Festivals

Genre-busting TV series The Kitchen Musical has come out on tops after an acclaimed debut season, winning gold for Best Writing and bronze for Best Performance at the 2012 New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards on April 17th. The Kitchen Musical is a Singapore production by The Group Entertainment.

The plot revolves around a rich, young girl fresh out of culinary school who embarks on a journey of self-discovery when she starts working for The Avilon, her father's restaurant. It aired in 17 countries across Asia in October 2011 via AXN, nTV7 in Malaysia, Metro TV in Indonesia and ABS CBN's Studio 23 in the Philippines.  Local versions of the series are currently in the works for Italy, India and Vietnam.

Accepting the award, series creator CheeK said: "When we started writing, we were unsure if viewers would appreciate this new way of telling a story merging drama, music and food, and our warped sense of humour! The positive receptions from our viewers and these awards have proven that our worries were unfounded. This is an absolute milestone for a start-up company like ours, as winning these medals affirms our belief in producing creative entertainment content that is unique yet accessible."

In its 55th year, the New York Festivals shines the spotlight on the world's best television & films in news, sports, documentary, information and entertainment programs which mirror today's global trends and encourage future story-tellers. The show also emerged as an intermedia-globe Gold Award winner at the 2012 WorldMediaFestival.

The series features a pool of international talents including British thespian Stephen Rahman-Hughes, Filipino powerhouses Karylle Tatlonghari and Christian Bautista, Singapore artiste Gayle Nerva and New-York based Filipino stage actor, Arthur Acuña. The Kitchen Musical goes for a second run in May across multiple platforms including more broadcasts on free-to-air stations across Asia.

As a treat for fans, The Kitchen Musical released the video below on their Facebook page after their wins.
