Yuna – Cultural Crossroad | HYPETRAK Posted: 12 Jun 2012 02:40 AM PDT A multi-talented artist, Yuna was first inspired by musicians like The Cardigans, Fiona Apple and No Doubt while she was earning her law degree in her native country of Malaysia. Today, in addition to writing award-winning albums, Yuna is making her imprint stateside with songs like "Island" and her Pharrell-produced single "Live Your Life." We were on-hand during her amazing performance at the Converse Rubber Tracks in Brooklyn and got a few moments to discuss her music, inspirations, and her latest self-entitled album which is out now. Thank you for taking some time out your busy schedule to speak with us. So tell us, what were some of the first experiences with music and your upbringing in Malaysia? You mentioned "fell in love with music." When did you discover your talents as a singer? Seems like your friends and family saw something that you didn't. Is this why you eventually became a lawyer? Do you still practice law and does the knowledge help you in music at all? I can see how it would. Speaking of transition, you are quite successful in Malaysia. Tell us about the process entering new markets such as Europe and North America. What were your expectations, if any? Can you tell us some of the concepts behind your newest self-entitled album and what the vision you wanted to capture? You have some big list names featured on the project, particularly Pharrell – can you share with us some of the memorable moments working with all these people? So what would you say is your favorite song on the project? Do you have any other music projects we should know about? Any final words? You can view Yuna's tour dates below.

Yuna- Live Your Life (Jakob Liedholm & Dj Carnage Remix) | Remix ... Posted: 14 Jun 2012 09:31 AM PDT Ever since I heard Jakob's remix of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" I knew he was going to be a talent to look out for in the future. However, I didn't know that this emerging talent was only 15 years old. Lately it seems that the up and coming talent in the EDM world is getting younger and younger, but it still surprises me to hear such talent coming from someone so young. On this track he's collaborated with Dj Carnage who is an up and coming Dj from LA, and after hearing some of his remixes I definitely recommend you check out more of his tracks. They've completely transformed what was a laid back easy listening song in to a hard hitting progressive house track. They maintain the melodic quality of the original but replace the underlying light percussion beat with a hard driving bass and a nice arrangement of synths. What I love most about his remixes are his big room house style drops, which have only gotten better since I first heard his "somebody that I used to know" remix. I've included both Dj's Soundcloud's as well since they will be rising to fame in the EDM world pretty fast. Yuna – Live Your Life (Jakob Liedholm & DjCarnage Remix) by JAKOB LIDO |
