Arsenal, Liverpool or Man Utd? Marseille ace Andre-Pierre Gignac ... Posted: 15 May 2014 01:23 AM PDT
The former French international joined Marseille in 2010 after huge success at Toulouse where he netted 24 league goals duing the 2008/09 campaign ending as the Ligue 1 top goalscorer. But prior to his £15m switch to the Stade Velodrome, Gignac has revealed he was offered the chance to join one of England's leading clubs following that sensational season with Toulouse. And despite refusing to confirm which club made him the offer, Gignac dropped a hint that it could have come from Arsenal, Liverpool or Manchester United.
"I had attractive offers. I had a very good English club in my footsteps at age 23, I had just finished top scorer in Ligue 1," Gignac revealed. When asked if the English club was Liverpool, Gignac said: "Liverpool? Not far, this is a club that plays in red!" Newcastle were tracking the 28-year-old frontman last summer, but decided against pursuing their interest and opted to sign QPR forward Loic Remy on a season-long loan instead. And Gignac says he has not dwelt on what could have been and is delighted to still be at the club he loves. "As a footballer, I no longer dream," Gignac told the club's official website. "It was becoming a professional footballer and playing for Marseille. I love this club." |
