Sudirman is still alive in us | Today News Posted: 04 Jun 2012 02:45 AM PDT KUALA LUMPUR: Thousands turned up at the Cheras Football Stadium here to relive the music of legendary singer Datuk Sudirman Arshad during Konsert Kenangan Sudirman. Fans were treated to hours of Sudirman's best-known hits during the free concert organised by Astro. Although the performances only started at 9pm yesterday, fans began filling the stadium as soon as the gates opened at 6pm. Taking on the late legend's songs were a mix of singers like Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, Jaclyn Victor and Ziana Zain; bands Hujan and Azlan And The Typewriter; and Akademi Fantasia alumni Hafiz, Hazama and Adira. Backing the singers was the DBKL Orchestra led by conductor Mirza Abdullah. The late entertainer had produced about 168 songs. In 1989, Sudirman won the Best Performer title at the Asia Music Award contest at the Royal Albert Hall, London. He died from pneumonia in 1992 at the age of 37. The concert was part of Astro's month-long Aku Sudirman campaign, which aims at introducing the icon to the younger generation and runs until June 11.
