Your Weekend Entertainment: With YUNA

In the 1970s, a young artiste from Johor achieved a great success as an entertainer abroad. He gained fame in PARIS, France. He is Shake (and later Dato Shake). Here is the song, Tu sais je t'aime, that him brought into the limelight in Europe. Dr. Kamsiah and I met him a few years back at the wedding of a friend's daughter when he performed this song.  There was no turning back for him, and we wish him well.

Recently, a teenager, whose parents are our close friends introduced us to a young lass from Subang Jaya who is a singing sensation in the US. She is YUNA, and for this weekend's entertainment we feature her exclusively starting  with Gelora Jiwa, her tribute to the late Tan Sri P. Ramlee. We hope you like our selection.–Dr. Kamsiah and Din Merican

Malaysian singer-songwriter Yuna is a somewhat up-and-coming artist. You may have heard one of her songs in a movie, TV show, or maybe you saw her perform on Jimmy Kimmel Live last month. But if you haven't yet heard of her, take a listen to the song "Rescue," off of her new album Nocturnal - it's an uplifting, cheerful song that will perk you up no matter what mood you're in:

Besides being a talented songstress, Yuna has a fresh and confident sense of style. She loves mixing bright colors, bold prints, and statement jewelry. How can you not be inspired? So scroll down to check out three outfits inspired by the lovely Yuna and "Rescue":

Outfit #1

Yuna moto jacket turtleneck look
Product Info: Pants – Forever 21, Top – Kohl's, Jacket – Forever 21, Boots – Wallis, Necklace – Forever 21, Eyeliner – Stila

This outfit has a kind of street style vibe, but with a bit of Yuna's signature prints and colors mixed in. Start with a pair of printed harem pants and a sleek turtleneck, then add some edge with a faux leather moto jacket. Keep it comfortable with low-heeled ankle boots. Accessorize with an eye-catching necklace, like this turquoise beaded version, and finish your beauty look with some winged eyeliner.

Outfit #2

Yuna black midi dress outfit
Product Info: Dress – Topshop, Cardigan – Nordstrom, Heels – Forever 21, Necklace – Aeropostale, Ring – JCPenney, Lipstick – MAC in "Lady Danger"

For a bold yet elegant evening look, try a fitted black midi dress with a colorful draped cardigan. Keep your footwear simple with some black ankle strap heels. Then, to mimic Yuna's style, go all out with jewelry – try a geometric bib necklace and a large stone ring. Don't forget a swipe of bright orange-red lipstick, just like Yuna wears in the music video.

Outfit #3

Yuna orange blouse
Product Info: Blouse – Target, Pants – Mango, Boots – Lulu's, Bag – Dorothy Perkins, Bracelets – Forever 21, Scarf – Nordstrom

To channel Yuna's confidence for class, try this last ensemble. Pair an elegant blouse in a bright color with a pair of skinny black pants. For a bit of edge, try a pair of studded black combat boots, but to keep with Yuna's polished vibe, accessorize with a classic white tote and a printed scarf. Finish off the outfit with some sparkle from a set of silver bangles.
