Panel Now, an online research website, conducted a survey from May 31 to June 4 asking 27,452 of its registered members, "Which athlete is Korea's #1 sports star?"

The athlete who claimed first with 47% (12,752) of the votes was none other than South Korea's figure skating queen Kim Yuna, who won the 2010 Winter Olympics champion in Ladies' Singles.

Those who had voted for the figure skating goddess wrote, "Kim Yuna has turned figure skating into a popular sport," "Although she's younger than me, I was truly moved by her performances. I remember when I felt proud of her," "I was never interested in figure skating before, but through Kim Yuna, I realized just how beautiful and artistic a sport it is. I believe that Korea has become more recognized thanks to her," and more.

Second place with 32% (8,845) of the votes went to South Korea's soccer superstar, Park Ji Sung, followed by former MLB baseball player Park Chan Ho with 8% (2,170) of the votes.

Other athletes include Olympic swimmer Park Tae Hwan with 3% (943) of the votes, weightlifter Jang Mi Ran with 2% (616), golf player Park Sae Ri with 1% (394), former men's Olympic marathon champion Hwang Young Cho with 1% (333), professional baseball player Choo Shin Soo with 1% (290), and short track speed skater Kim Dong Sung with 1% (165).

Dave Lucas: Sharmin Meets Yuna!

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 09:27 AM PDT

Now this is way cool! My friend Sharmin actually met, live and in-person, YUNA!Yuna started out as a solo MySpace artist in 2006, singing in both English and Malay. Her meteoric rise in the Malaysian indie music scene is attributed to the strong following she gained via Myspace (which still has a presence in Southeast Asia). Having played at many gigs since the release of her Demo, EP and then two local albums, she is now focusing on promoting and performing music on her debut US Album.

Though she's been living in Los Angeles since 2010, Yuna isn't neglecting her Malaysian fans. She engages them with contests — to submit suggestions for her videos, for example. "I have a bunch of projects back home," she says. "I'm multi-tasking!"

Among them is her fashion venture, a boutique and online shop called IAMJETFUEL. Yuna also will be a part of Lollaplooza 2012 line up.
