Marseille striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is gearing up for a legal battle with fast food giants Burger King after they used him in their latest advertising campaign. Gignac, one of the top scorers in French football, is known for his stocky physique, with many supporters affectionately mocking his size by singing 'A Big Mac for Gignac' in the stands. And Burger King sought to capitalise on this by using him to promote their new campaign to sell Whoppers by changing the lyrics to 'a Whopper for Gignac'. The company then flooded the Marseille press by buying a ton of advertising space as they gear up to open a new branch in the city. However, the stunt has not gone down well with Gignac, who has failed to see the funny side and he is threading to sue for damages after claiming he has been teased by his teammates, who have adorned his locker with the advert. Talk of Gignac's weight has been around for ages, with the 28-year-old allegedly sent to a 'fat camp' in 2011 to get fit after falling out with then coach Didier Deschamps. |
