ADVERTISING and content creation agency Creative Republic has signed up popular actress Maya Karin (pic) for a public service announcement campaign involving five 40-second TV/Internet commercials.

It says in a statement that the main TV commercial (TVC), which is Episode 1 in the series, contains a storyline which has the main character (played by Maya) contemplating the fate of Planet Earth with the rising population.

"Maya has gone through the storyboards with Anthony Wong (the writer-director) and she has been very enthusiastic about, not just the special effects involved but more importantly, the substance of the script, which has a very strong environmental message," says Creative Republic chief executive officer Esther Tan.

Creative Republic cannot reveal the identity of the client at this time due to its non-disclosure obligation.

The commercials began shooting yesterday involving heavy usage of high-tension cable rigs which hoisted Maya Karin up in the air.

At the post production stage, the shots will be blended with 3D animation and special effects.

The three-month campaign will run from March 12.

Wong describes the campaign as "quite a game changer in terms of media planning." Episode 1, which is thematic, will unravel Planet Earth's dire problem vis-vis Malaysia, while Episodes 4 to 5 will be an Internet exclusive broadcast.

"At the tail-end of our 40-second thematic TV commercial, we will flash out this supertitle: Internet exclusive. Watch Episodes 2-5 at …(the client's website). So the main TVC becomes a teaser," Wong says.
